Ion exchange resin used in water softeners may gradually become contaminated by iron compounds and other deposits during operation. This is particularly relevant for systems treating well water or water containing elevated levels of iron.

Standard regeneration with a sodium chloride (NaCl) brine solution restores the resin’s ability to reduce water hardness, but it may not always remove iron and other accumulated deposits from the resin effectively.

The Clack Res-Up Feeder provides a continuous and controlled supply of a specialised resin cleaning agent into the brine tank. The cleaning agent mixes with the brine solution and is drawn into the filter vessel during the water softener regeneration cycle, helping to clean the ion exchange resin.

The S6304 Yellow model uses a yellow dosing tube with a nominal feed rate of approximately 12 cc, or 12 ml per day.

Regular resin cleaning can help maintain the ion exchange capacity of the resin, reduce the accumulation of iron deposits and extend the effective service life of the filtration media.

Operating Principle

The Res-Up Feeder is installed in the brine tank of the water softener. The device gradually doses the resin cleaning agent into the brine solution.

During regeneration, the water softener draws the prepared brine together with the cleaning agent into the filter vessel. The ion exchange resin is therefore cleaned automatically as part of the normal water softener regeneration process.

When Is It Recommended?

The Clack Res-Up Feeder is particularly recommended:

• for water softeners treating well water;
• when both hardness and iron are present in the source water;
• when iron deposits accumulate on the ion exchange resin;
• for preventive maintenance and cleaning of ion exchange resin;
• to help maintain the long-term operating efficiency of the water softener.

Important: The Res-Up Feeder is not a standalone iron-removal system and does not replace a properly designed iron-removal treatment system when the iron concentration in the source water is high.
